This is the full on court player development workout with Artur Labinowicz, a very talented basketball player. In this workout we start with a variation of shots on the move to warm-up, then transition into a variety of ball handling, finishes, and reads integrated into drill work. We then finish the workout with various volume shooting drills to cool down.

Drills

Warm-up:
“Get a Foot Down”, “5-4-3 Shots on Move”

Work:

“2 Ball Combo, Finish, Read”; A variety of 2 ball dribbling drills-Pound, Machine Gun, Side to Side.. To a finish versus me and the Realistick (a MUST for all coaches of all levels) .. To a read, if I closed short, he would shoot it, if I ran him off the line, he’d attack. 2×5 reps passing to each side.

“1 Ball Combo, Finish, Open Shot, Read”; A variety of ball handling moves, incorporating off-arm work as well, to attacking the rim with a variety of finishes.. To an open game rhythm shot.. To a read versus me. 2×5 reps from each wing.

We worked these spots because this is where Art would operate from in our offense, and finishing through contact is something he wanted to work on. That being said, you always have a blank canvas, creativity and communication are your biggest strengths, so use them and create the environment your player needs to improve.

Cool down:
“3-2-3 Shooting”, “4 Minute Shoot”

Thanks for viewing and create a great day! -Coach T

This type of workout that incorporates a variety of skills is much more beneficial to a player of Arts caliber than, “make 10 3’s at 7 spots”, don’t get me wrong, volume shooting, stationary ball handling drills, it’s all needed, and has it’s place in player development.

That being said, I believe if you can incorporate such drills in an environment that resembles more of a game, then the player development needle will move much faster.

Picked this drill up from Coach Fox @calmbball .

Progression:

Single move, 4th pass being a “One More”.

Double move, 4th pass being a “One More”.

Double move, 4th pass being a “One More”, 5th pass being a back door.

You can then go on to add late clock options; flat ball screens, ISO’s, tailored to your style of play, options are endless.

In this variation, I’ll slowly move the ball farther and farther from the rim. It’s important for your player to get low and take a big initial step after grabbing the ball off the ground. As fatigue sets in you can see our guy Grant (he was working hard though!) getting taller on his initial step and thus not covering as much ground.

There’s many ways of setting this drill up, you can go competition on different hoops, first to a certain number wins, you can put timer on it see how many dunks they can score in a certain time!

Band is pulling them towards baseline, this requires them to put more force into the ground as to not drift, it forces them to keep their hips low, all of which will help them make the connection of loading into the ground.

Keep banded reps low, (4-6 reps) solely using it to plant the seed, have them feel movement, the braking, feel the force they put into the ground. Catching the pass for rhythm, is it fluid?

Remove band, 6-10 makes, are they making the connection? Are they drifting, or are they attacking the ground and shooting in the “phone booth”? First time @tylerrssj did the drill and he was locked in
